Are you ready for Internet Explorer 7?

From November, Internet Explorer 7 will be available as an automatic download as part of the windows update process to genuine users of Windows XP SP2 and Windows 2003 Server SP1. It is also available to download from the Microsoft website www.microsoft.com

The updated browser comes with an improved and simplified user interface removing unnecessary clutter which allows more space to be devoted to displaying a website. A new feature is tabbed browsing which enables multiple web sites to be viewed in a single browser window with the ability to easily switch between one site and another.

Printing websites has also been improved has the new browser automatically scales a web page to fit on to the paper to be printed on. The ability to preview multiple pages is another addition.

There is now an instant search box in the toolbar for searching the web using your preferred search engine.

Security has also been improved with features added that help defend against malicious software (also known as malware), and new ways to better protect against the theft of personal data from fraudulent websites, a practice known as phishing.

The new additions to Internet Explorer 7 are more than just cosmetic and now puts it more on a level with the rival browser Firefox which for example included tabbed browsing when it was launched about 2 years ago. The timing of the launch of Internet Explorer coincides with the release of Firefox 2.

It is important to note that both browsers have and will continue to be exploited so it is imperative that which ever browser you use you keep updated with the latest security patches available from the vendors' websites. As always MCD Computer Services Ltd is here to help with any of you questions.
